The main plot would be that all of the kids that got killed throughout the movie would not only NOT be dead, but be part of a Ghostface cult that turned on Sidney.
Years ago while doing media for his TV show The Following, Kevin Williamson revealed what his original idea was for the film. The team decided that ending would be too similar to the ending of Scream 2, so it was scrapped for the dung pile that we got.
Originally Emily Mortimer’s Angelina got in on the fun by being a Sidney obsessed former classmate (high school or college, reports vary) who is cast in the role of Sidney in Stab 3 because she is Roman’s lover and partner in crime. The Scream franchise has made a hundred bazillion dollars off the mystery of the killers at the end of their films, so it’s understandable. This was also in the middle of the internet boom making Wes Craven, new writer Ehren Kruger (Kruger - WTF?!) and Dimension Films scared to death the ending was going to leak on the internets. Kevin Williamson bowed out of the script due to other commitments (you see, he was super famous for writing Scream movies - ironic, no?) but left an outline of how the story should go. Remember that line in the movie where Jenny McCarthy says, “Is this another fucking rewrite?!” and gets all pissy? That’s because the script was constantly getting re-written - especially the ending. Now it’s onto the most troubled and worst movie in one of my favorite franchises.
I guess I owe Brewtal Austria credit for the video, eh? Sound familiar? Here’s the crazy part – these were all filmed! Check it out… Wes Craven hated that, but if Shaye was going to insist, he would compromise with Freddy at the door to attack the mom, but not in the car. Is it really that much of a surprise that the weird “it was all just a dream but secretly it wasn’t because the roof of the car is Freddy colors and the mom is about to sucked through a small window in the door” mindfuck ending wasn’t the original ending that Wes Craven wanted? Or producer Bob Shaye for that matter.Ĭraven wanted a “happy ending” that would make the entire movie just a dream (of course) and her mom would quit drinking and they would all drink milk while doing their homework!īob Shaye hated that idea because this was the 80s, baby and everyone knows you have to set up for a sequel! He wanted that one last scare of the car being possessed, Freddy taking the wheel and driving us right into A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: What the f*k happened?
This fever dream (see what I did there) of a franchise is full of fake outs, hallucinations and all kinds of shit that’s not really happening. Hold onto your butts - it’s about to get weird. Below are ten examples of horror movies that had alternate endings planned or filmed before switching to the endings you know and love. Have you ever wished one your favorite horror movies had ended just a bit differently? Maybe they were originally supposed to but due to budget constraints, artistic vision or plain old not testing well with audiences the ending was changed. Whether this is good or bad is up to the individual viewer. A film’s ending can completely change the movie you just watched (I’m looking at you, The Mist). Ever look at your favorite horror films and just wished they’d ended just a bit differently.
